The Coal Quay Garden

This garden, situated at Portney’s Lane on the Coal Quay, is part of the ‘Get Ireland Growing’ campaign, organised by GIY Ireland and Energia. The focus of this project is to create a beautiful garden, bring the community together to grow our own food, and also transform a derelict space in the city.

We’ll also be honouring the history of the area, once known as potato quay, by growing many of the items that the iconic Cork ‘shawlies’ would have sold here in the past – most famously, potatoes and onions.

This has been one of our favourite and most successful projects to date with a nice reward of a bumper crop of veg at the end of it.
